This will be a blog post on the main website at some point, but I wanted to give you guys a heads up.
About RVCLB 3
All previous purchasers of RVCare Logbook will receive a 100% free upgrade to RVCLB 3. RVCLB 3 is a modernisation of the app which will allow us to take the app forward into the future. What we've been working on is akin to a complete rebuild of an RV, replacing the engine, plumbing and electricals. Then we've cleaned up the interior and put the originals back in place. So underneath, we now have a modern 64-bit ready app, good to go into the future.
I have fixed a ton of bugs but that wasn't actually the focus of this initial version of the rebuild. There's a good chance that a bug that's been bugging you has been fixed but the focus was the modernisation of the app underneath. Once we get 3.0 out, we can work on squashing those remaining bugs one by one but it was absolutely necessary to revive the app and bring it back to life with those modern fundamentals first.
How necessary? Well, come this summer, Apple are effectively killing 32-bit apps. They'll cease to function on their latest operating system. And RVCLB 2 was a 32-bit app. So that's how vital this work has been. Without that rebuild, any other bug fixes and improvements wouldn't have been much use if the app ceased to work altogether!
And, yes, RVCLB 3 is 100% compatible with all your existing data.
You may know this, but we acquired RBCLB from the original author (Jim Smith, no relation) a couple of years ago, as he was retiring, and I thought the app was way too useful to let fade away. This means you probably didn't buy the app from me and I've received no income from you. And that's okay - my promise to Jim was that you would receive RVCLB 3 free of charge (and all the bug fixes that will follow!) and I am honoring that commitment.
However, for RVCLB 3, your current license key will not work and will need converted to a new license key (again, free of charge). To receive your new key, simply send an email to email@example.com with your current license key, and please confirm the email address you wish to associate with your key. You don't have to wait until launch day to do this, although you won't receive a response until then. The new license system uses your email address along with a key.
By end of May.
Mac App Store
If you purchased from the Mac App Store, don't worry, you won't be left out. App updates are reviewed by Apple before they release them and the review typically take a couple of days. You won't need a license key.
If you need help, simply post here on the forum (don't post your license key though!) or send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and I'd be very happy to help you.
