Update RVCare Log Book-two

NOTE: For Version 1 user only

NOTE: ALWAYS BACK UP YOUR FILES.

If you do not want to import your data from the old version of RVCare Log Book you can skip this process. Just start using the new version. (See Getting Started)

To updating RVCare Log Book from the Filemaker stand alone version requires that you export the data from the old version to XML files. One for each table, there are five tables, see list below. These will be used as transfer/import to a new data base. Unlike the old version the data base will not be part of the application.

What is an XML File: If you are interested do a goggle search on ‘xml’ for a description of xml.

Spelling of the file names must be exactly as shown, case is ignored. The “.xml” file type (extension) is optional.

For instructions for creating the ‘XML’ files select the link below:

After you have created the above listed ‘XML’ files you will need the following:

  1. The five ‘XML’ file listed above.
  2. RVCLB Update Assistant application. (Download link below)
  3. RVCareLogBook.rvclb (RVCare Log Book data base, which is created the first time  you run RVCareLogBook application.)

Run RVCLB Update Assistant.

You may load the data base with the ‘xml’ file in any order.

Click the “Open XML” button, bottom right of window.

Navigate to the XML file you wish to load to the database.

As each table (file) is loaded, if it find an old table with the same name it will replace it. If you run an import and for some reason decide to run it again, with same or different input the old table will be replaced. NOTE: For this application the input file name and the table name are and the same.

Shown below is the RVCLB Update Assistant startup screen. These instruction will be shown in either the application window or you web browser, depending on the button chose.

Select the “Open XML” will show the file dialog to open the ‘xml’ file. After you select open the xml file will be read into memory showing the names of the fields imported from the xml file. To the right of that field Name is the Name of the data base field into which the data is to be placed.

In the above list the first row are column heading. Just below that is the data to be imported. You may use the scroll bars to review the data. Note that the second row’s data is the same as the column heading, this is used to verify that the correct data is getting to the correct column. When you first run RVCare Log Book application after loading the data base you will need to go into each table and delete that entry, after verifying that it’s ok.

After reviewing your data click the “Load DB” button to write the data into the data base..

Only one table is loaded at a time, you will need to load all table you have data for. You do not have to quit after each load.

You will also need to import any pictures as pictures do not export from the old program.

You will need to Recompute PM Schedule. Do this by open the “Preventive Maintenance List” and select the “Recompute” button.

You will need to create and update the accumulators records in the data base. Do this by opening the “Service” window, then selecting the menu Adjust->Accumulator.

These last two steps can also be run anytime you feel the “totals” or “PM schedule” is out of wrack.

AS ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR FILES BEFORE AND AFTER.
