New version of RVCare Log Book

For the last several of months I have been re-writing RVCare Log Book. This is not a minor change but a MAJOR change. The change are not in the function of what RVCare Log Book does but what is used to get it done. The current version of RVCare Log Book uses an the application, FileMaker, to create a “stand alone” application. There are some major drawback using this system for making an application that can be distributed to users. One of those is the process of updating the application, as the data base is part of the application. The updating process can not be made easy. That just one reason to move to a different method of creating the program, there are several others.

The new version of RVCare Log Book will be created with Real Software’s Real Studio. Real Studio is a full-featured, cross-platform software development tool suited to creating a wide range of applications, from utilities to enterprise-class applications. Real Studio is the only object-oriented, cross-platform software development tool that enables users at all levels to create powerful, stand-alone, native applications for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.

What does this mean to you, the users of RVCare Log Book. For one the application file will be much smaller. The data will be in a separate file, this will allow the user who wanted to use the data on a windows system on the road and a Mac at home to do so. It will also allow the data to be in your Document folder and the application to be in your program folder, as appropriate for you system. That also allow the application to be updated without messing with the data file. The data file can be backup-ed using your normal backup process.

Programing wise it will allow me more control over processing the data. I will be able to understand just how the calculation on the data works. For example if the Next PM date come out incorrect in some cases I will have the ability to actual trace just what is going on and make adjustment to the process.

Programing has been mostly completed for this new version of RVCare Log Book. I will now be testing it to find any bug and enhancements. This task be extremely difficulty for the programmer to do as he may not be able to see the problems. Kind of like “not being able to see the trees for the forest”. I am asking for volunteers to assist me in this process.

I need both Windows and Mac users.

Please e-mail me: jas1931@gmail.com if you would like to help me test RVCare Log Book.
